Trick-or-treating?going from house to house in search of candy and other goodies?has been a popular Halloween tradition in the United States and other countries for an estimated 100 years. But the origins of this community-based ritual, which costumed children typically savor while their cavity-conscious parents grudgingly tag along, remain hazy. Possible forerunners to modern-day trick-or-treating have been identified in ancient Celtic festivals, early Roman Catholic holidays, medieval practices and even British politics.

TRICK OR TREAT HELP #1. If possible, drive the route you plan to trick-or-treat the morning of or day before. That will let you see the area clearly and confirm there are no road hazards (open holes, excavation, etc). Be sure smaller children do not become separated from you. And remember, other children in costumes may look like YOUR CHILD!

that’d be the earliest possible date for Orange Tuesday) too early to start scaring things up for that All Hallow’s Eve bash at the end of October? Or do you think it’s more than appropriate to start thinking about wearing that white sheet right after Labor Day?
